Flames Inside

Twinkling lights

Burn tiny flames in the sky.

Delightful at first

Until they follow inside.

A young girl,

No more than

Six years of age,

Cries out to her parents,

Saying the “fireflies”

Kept her awake.

It’s brushed aside as

Imagination & dreams.

That point on,

A secret,

As she falls asleep.

Older & older,

Her lips remain shut.

Though the “fireflies” appear

Of their own accord.

Forever clinging to

That little girl

Who wished it was a dream.
